Basking in the Caribbean sun, a luxurious Bahamas penthouse apartment boasted an open dining space in need of a focal point along with a spiral floating staircase that was perfectly spaced for a sister piece. The Bespoke team were invited to design two one-of-a-kind chandeliers. One suspended above the dining table in the main living area and another to cascade amongst the swirling steps between floors. A key requirement for the piece was a transitional quality that could be appreciated as a sculpture by day but awakens as a central luminaire at night.
We produced this in partnership with the vision of the interior design team at Laura Hammett.
Handcrafted in the UK, double-blown glass technique forms the focus of this piece.
This method offers greater artistic freedom, with the scope to infuse originality and refined detail into every element. The result is a dazzlingly unique shape, size and colour for each pendant.
These subtle differences add dimensions, which reflect the natural inspirations for the sculptural luminaire. A mix of clear and ocean-blue glass elements are suspended on pearl-silver power cables, sourced to blend in with the shifting tones of the landscape for a seamless finish.
From a wide perspective, they form a cloud-like silhouette that mirrors the breathtaking views of the sky and sea beyond.
Bespoke transitional qualities
Viewed in the daylight, the crystalline clarity of the glass evokes a sense of stillness and quiet elegance. As dusk descends, the blue tones of the glass are enhanced as light emanates across the individual pendants, casting an ambient yet fresh glow of light throughout the space.
The effect is transformational – creating a soft, ethereal glow that cascades across the dining table, wrapping it in warmth and intimacy.
The details
A single LED module is concealed in each decorative component and features a sand–blasted diffuser and a custom spun case with a polished satin nickel finish. The light sources are dimmable and emit a warm yet clean white quality of light.
