We were commissioned to design an impressive, artistic lighting installation for a landmark building in Dubai.
Our client envisioned a statement piece that would evoke wonder and warmth, perfectly complementing the striking grand staircase.
The office is light and uplifting, and the composition needed to make an impact while also leaving space for natural light to influence the atmosphere.

A Momentous Feature for One Za’abeel
We were commissioned to design an artistic lighting installation that would command presence within the double-height reception of the One Za’abeel offices. The sweeping staircase required a dramatic yet delicate feature that would complement its golden and dark timber finish.
In response, we created a canopy of 500 handblown glass birds – one of our largest and most complex compositions to date, arranged as a cascading murmuration. Floating gracefully through the space, the birds are softly illuminated by discreet down lights, which highlight the internal crackle effect of the glass.
This sculptural installation was meticulously designed to suit the staircase environment of the reception lounge, culminating in a bespoke composition that elevates the space.

The Making Of
Each individual “bird” element is handcrafted from clear glass by our expert glassblower. While still molten, the glass is shaped into wing-like forms and then dipped into water to create a distinctive crackled effect. This process solidifies the glass into its lasting form.
The crackled surface of each bird catches and reflects light, producing a shimmering, ethereal effect.
High output down lights were precisely positioned above to enhance illumination levels and deepen the interplay of light and shadow. As light pours onto the installation, the glass birds come alive, glinting, glowing, and amplifying the lustrous character of the design.
